Welcome to Oranjehof

Welcome to the website of Stichting Oranjehof, a residential complex for senior citizens, situated in Bonaero Park, Benoni.

History

During the 1970's, the Dutch immigrant community in Johannesburg realised that there was a growing need for retirement housing for Dutch senior citizens who had settled in South Africa after WWII. Under the enthusiastic leadership of Mr and Mrs van Gogh and Mr and Mrs Bohlander., a non-profit organisation named Stichting Oranjehof was established for the purpose of raising funds to establish a Dutch retirement complex.
Funds were raised, amongst others, by means of the very popular Dutch market days held in the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, as well as other functions by and for the Dutch immigrant community.
Before long, the Jurgens family offered to sell a suitable piece of land to Stichting Oranjehof for the symbolic purchase price of R1. This offer was gratefully accepted.
From then on things moved fast – the first row of houses was built and the first resident moved into her house on 15 September 1981.
